Relaxed Summer Wedding at Styal Lodge, Cheshire | Bethan & Karl

A relaxed summer wedding at Styal Lodge in Cheshire with laid-back daytime vibes and an incredible party at night.

Styal Lodge is one of those Cheshire wedding venues that just works perfectly for couples who want their day to feel relaxed, personal and full of genuine moments — and Bethan and Karl’s summer wedding was exactly that.

From a calm, laid-back morning to an absolutely buzzing party in the evening, their day at Styal Lodge had the best of both worlds. No rigid timelines, no awkward posing — just great people, great energy, and a proper celebration once the sun went down.

As a Styal Lodge wedding photographer, this is exactly the kind of wedding I love documenting.

Styal Lodge has become one of the most popular wedding venues in Cheshire, and it’s easy to see why. Set in the countryside just outside Manchester, it offers a beautiful balance of modern design and rural surroundings.

The barn-style ceremony space is flooded with natural light, which is ideal for natural, colourful wedding photography, while the open grounds give couples space to actually enjoy their drinks reception rather than disappear for photos for hours.

For Bethan and Karl, Styal Lodge suited their approach perfectly — relaxed in the day, then full-on party mode once the evening kicked off.

The morning of Bethan and Karl’s wedding felt calm from the start. No rushing, no stress — just friends, family and that unmistakable summer wedding atmosphere.

Bethan got ready onsite at Styal Lodge, which always makes the day flow better. It means everything stays in one place and couples can properly enjoy each moment without worrying about travel or logistics.

As a documentary wedding photographer, these quieter moments are just as important as the big ones — the laughs, the nerves, the hugs, and the anticipation before the ceremony begins.

Bethan and Karl’s ceremony was heartfelt, personal and full of genuine emotion. Styal Lodge’s ceremony space is ideal for this kind of wedding — intimate without feeling cramped, and bright without being overpowering.

Nothing felt staged or overly formal. Guests were fully present, reactions were natural, and the focus stayed exactly where it should be: on Bethan and Karl and the commitment they were making to each other.

This is where unobtrusive documentary wedding photography really shines — capturing the emotion as it unfolds, without interrupting it.

After the ceremony, the day flowed effortlessly into drinks and mingling outside. This is always one of my favourite parts of a wedding day at Styal Lodge — guests spread out across the grounds, conversations overlap, and couples actually get time to enjoy being newly married.

Rather than pulling Bethan and Karl away for long photo sessions, we kept everything relaxed and informal. Short pockets of photos, lots of movement, and plenty of space for real moments to happen naturally.

While the daytime was calm and relaxed, the evening was a completely different story — in the best possible way.

Once the music started, Bethan and Karl’s guests absolutely filled the dance floor. Styal Lodge is an incredible venue for evening celebrations, and this wedding made the most of it. Big dance moves, spontaneous singalongs, and the kind of energy that keeps building as the night goes on.

These are the moments couples often remember most — and documenting them honestly is just as important as the ceremony itself.

Bethan and Karl’s wedding is a perfect example of why Styal Lodge works so well for couples who want their wedding to feel relaxed, modern and fun.
